Experience

From a simple flu to a body that completely seized up.

It started with something that seemed innocent: a few days of flu. For four days I was really ill, with fever, chills and extreme fatigue. I thought it would pass on its own.

But on 28 November 2025 something changed. My ankles started to burn and the skin turned red.

At first I thought it was part of the flu. So did my GP. A week later I was back in the consulting room.

By then my lower legs had become swollen and the redness was moving up the inside of my thighs towards my lower back. According to the GP it was hives. I got tablets and ointment. That should work within a few days.

But it did not. The complaints got worse.

Blood was taken and one value turned out to be elevated, which could point to thrombosis. That word alone caused a lot of unrest. I was referred for an ultrasound of my blood vessels. The scan showed something else: my blood vessels were simply open and, despite my smoking habit, actually looked surprisingly good. So no thrombosis. But there was a lot of fluid in my legs. There was no explanation.

I have always been careful with medication. The idea of “let's try this and see if it works” does not feel right to me. If it does not work, something else comes along. To me that feels like Russian roulette with my body.

I want to understand what is going on, not just suppress a symptom.

When the GP wanted to try yet another, heavier drug, I thought: I am not a lab rat, am I?

In that same period I came into contact with Jenneke. Through my brother. He had an appointment with her and suggested I come along. I did not really know what to expect, but what struck me immediately was her openness and honesty. No vague stories or complicated terms, but a clear explanation of what happens in your body and why complaints can arise.

Although we were actually there for my brother, she took the time to look at my leg as well. But she looked beyond that one complaint. She wanted to understand the whole picture.

She asked questions that went much further than I was used to: how do you live, what do you eat, how are you doing emotionally, what has had an impact on your life, and what does your life actually ask of your body? She did not just look at the symptom, but at the whole system. That made an impression.

At the door she said something that stayed with me: “If you choose one hundred percent for yourself, I will give you two hundred percent.”

No pressure. No sales pitch. Just an offer to really investigate what was going on in my body.

That same evening I already noticed something. Normally I drive home in one go, but this time I had to stop several times on the way to urinate. My stomach started to rumble and hurt. It felt as if my body was starting to let something go.

From that moment I started the guidance with her.

What strikes me most about her approach is that she looks at the whole system. Not just at one complaint, but at everything around it: nutrition, energy, emotions, load and recovery.

She asks questions that sometimes make you go quiet for a moment. Not to be difficult, but because she really wants to get to the core.

She is honest, warm and direct. And if she does not know something, she says so. Then she looks it up or consults colleagues. That gave me confidence. Within a week and a half I already noticed a difference. My energy started to come back and my ankle got slimmer by the day. After two weeks it was almost back to normal.

Perhaps even more important was that for the first time I felt that someone was really trying to understand why my body reacted the way it did. For me, health is not just about the complaints disappearing. Above all it is about trusting my body again.

If someone now asks me where to go with health problems, I simply tell my own story.

Because in the end, personal experience often convinces more than a thousand words.
